This June, Rowan is supporting WOVEN in Kirklees and The Big Rainbow Knit.

WOVEN is a biennial festival that first took place in June 2019. This year, the WOVEN ‘Yarny Army’ is combining thousands of handmade squares to create one giant yarn bombing installation on the six grand pillars at the front of Huddersfield Train Station.

WOVEN in Kirklees is a fantastic initiative that focuses on recognising generations of innovators, connecting a strong heritage with today’s innovative developments, and celebrating the unique creative expression of the Kirklees district’s rich and diverse communities.

This year, we are extremely proud that the Big Rainbow Knit features exclusive designs from three of our very own designers: Lisa Richardson, Martin Storey and Chloe Thurlow.

Alongside these designs, WOVEN are launching an exclusive competition, with a chance to have your work displayed at the Big Rainbow Knit weekend in St George’s Square, Huddersfield plus a grand prize donated by Rowan.

WOVEN is inviting the public to choose one (or more) of the Rowan designs and use them to create an original garment, fashion, or home accessory - cushions, table runners, bags, purses, scarfs, snoods or whatever you fancy making are all possible with a little bit of imagination and creativity.

To be in with the chance of winning please submit up to three different images (angles) of your finished creations to woven@hatchprojects.org.uk by 18th June along with your name and a contact telephone number.

Entries will be judged by an expert panel including Stuart Hillard (Quiltmaker and star of Great British Sewing Bee), Sandra Nesbitt (Big Rainbow Knit) and Lisa Richardson (Rowan).

The winning design will be announced and displayed on the Big Rainbow Knit weekend on the 26th & 27th June 2021 for all to see plus the lucky winner will receive a hamper of yarn for the garment of their choice from the latest Rowan collection.
